Murder Mystery Party

Hey, it’s me again. Last year, instead of buying a murder mystery party kit, I decided to write my own. I figured how hard could it be? It was pretty fun to do and I was able to write my own ending. I am going to share my murder mystery with you and inspire you to host a murder mystery party this fall. Feel free to add onto it to make it your own and just have a good time. Let me know if you use it and what are your thoughts on it. Maybe this will help you decide to write your own, one day.

Casino Night

Directions:

A night out at the casino is coming up shortly, whether you work there or coming as a guest. Introductions will take place when everyone gets here, you can add to your description but you will introduce yourself and can start giving hints based off of your description during the introduction or can wait until after introduction but before the murder occurs. Figure about an hour/hour and half for the murder to occur after the introduction.

You can have a room set up to record your confessions on who you think the murderer is. After evidence has been collected and the confessions are filmed, you will write down who did what, then watch the confessions. You can film at any time unless stated otherwise based on your descriptions or what you have witnessed so far in the night.

Always have fun with this narrative. Feel free to change the name of the casino.

Black Jack Dealer: Judy always kept the relationship with the gamblers professional but recently it was different. She was flirting a little bit and being extra friendly with William tonight and  Sally was not having it. William just seemed like a down to earth guy which felt weird since she always avoided making friends at work. She came to do what she loves and get paid. Judy saw him flirting with Jaclyn, which she has seen him do previously on his visits to the casino but something has gotten over her tonight. During her break, she confronts William and asks why is he flirting with Jaclyn when Sally is here and she is noticing. Things got heated for a bit but Judy had to go.

Casino Manager: Owns a successful casino but is always looking for more in life. The owner is never there on the weekends, always at the second home in Florida but this weekend she felt like she needed to be here. Luckily, they were since some guy ended up dead in the lobby.

Security guard: Has always seen the group of friends come in every month for a night out. He always thought the girl with the nice outfits didn’t belong to the guy with perfect hair. He just doesn’t see what she sees in him. When he saw the girl and the guy with perfect hair talking in the lobby, he thought they might be breaking up  and could swoop in, even though she doesn’t know I have been observing them since they first came into the casino.  He got a call to go back into the casino before he saw the ending between the two. He was upset that he can’t offer her a shoulder in case she needs it. (Film a confession- towards the end of the night)

Dancer/Singer 1: Tonight at Casino Seneca,  dancers/singers perform as a form of entertainment. Casino Seneca is trying to expand their business so we were just hired and tonight is our first night performing. This is my first official gig that I get paid for. Nerves and excitement were running high. I was keeping tabs on the guy with perfect hair. During our break, I was able to go up to the perfect hair guy and held a conversation with him. Shortly after I went up to him, William, his girlfriend came over to see what we were talking about. His girlfriend was not too happy when she came up to William and I.

Dancer/Singer 2: On Saturday Night, Casino Seneca, has dancers perform to entertain their guests. Casino Seneca is trying to expand their business so we were just hired and tonight is our first night performing but it wasn’t my first paid gig. As I was on the stage, I kept seeing the security keeping close tabs on this one group of friends,  almost as if  he was  stalking them. I saw a male figure walk away visibly upset but  couldn’t get a good look at the person. Will film a confession towards the end

Gamblers- A group of friends goes out to the casino for a night out. It was all fun until it wasn’t. The group frequent there.

Sally: Girlfriend of William. Always dress nicely and put together. They have been together for 2 years. They have been best friends for their whole life and things were perfect up until a few weeks ago. She felt like he was pulling away from her and kept saying he was fine. When she saw him talking to the dealer and that dancer/singer girl, she automatically thought that William was cheating on her and she was going to lose him. Sally waited her whole life to finally be with him. Sally pulled him  to the lobby to confront him about cheating these past few weeks. Things didn’t get resolved and got a little  heated to the point she had to walk away before he ruined her casino night. Sally went to go find Barbara to help cheer her up and talk things through with her.Sally saw Barbara face when she told her and just hopes she doesn’t find William right now. Sally knew she was not a fan of them together but for the most part just tolerated William. Sally hopes and tells Barbara to let her figure this out and just be there for her support.

James: William’s best friend. He has known him since they were five. James is the quiet one, considerate and hates when he sees unfairness with his friends and family. James has joined William on a few trips to the casino outside their monthly weekend trips. It started off fun but William has been gambling more and more. At first, he bailed William out and William promised he won’t gamble that much anymore. That promise was broken one too many times. He told William before going to the casino that if he doesn’t come clean to Sally that he will and to get the help he needs, she doesn’t deserve this. When he saw Sally come back from the lobby upset, he figured William told her. He went up to Sally to see what’s going on, and she brushed him off and said I’m fine.  He went to find William, William and him got into a fist fight. William really was pissing him off to the fact that he ended up killing him. He didn’t know what had gotten  to him to lead to that point where he strangled his own best friend, but he did and that is something he has to learn to live with the rest of his life. After the fight, he left William on the floor struggling to stay alive. He left the casino before anyone else saw him and turned him in, until he realized he no longer had the wallet. (Film confessions last- will talk about his missing wallet and doesn’t know where it could be and hoping it’s not near William, etc).

Barbara: Friends with Sally and William. Barbara doesn’t like Sally and William together and she does not shy away from that. She thinks they should have remained as friends.  Barbara is the comedian of the group and always down for a good time. Barbara feels like Sally could do better especially recently when William has been gone most weekends. Barbara notices how William doesn’t hang with her and Sally like past casino visits. Sally came to her after having it out with William and told her everything that happened that night and she was  suspecting cheating. Barbara went to go find James to see if he knew anything to help her best friend out with getting to the bottom of this. Barbara couldn’t find James. James left the casino after the murder. (Can film confessions at any time)

William: found dead in the lobby of the casino. William is known for perfect hair and takes pride in that title. William wants to marry Sally but he has a secret he needs to come clean with before doing so.William has been coming to the casino daily for a few weeks now but Sally doesn’t know about his recent gambling and doesn’t realize how much debt he is in. William met Jaclyn and Judy  when he started going to the casino more. They play the tables and machines together. They have become quick friends. Judy was extra flirtatious with him tonight and he wasn’t mad but just hopes Sally doesn’t see. Judy pulls William aside to talk on her break about Jaclyn. Just before Sally talked to him about tonight and the last few weeks, one of the dancer/singer girl approached him. Just then, I feel Sally next to me. After she left, I went into the lobby to talk to Sally, then when she walked away, I saw James. James and I were talking in the lobby about everything- during the talk with James is when the murder takes place. James left you struggling to stay alive. (Try to film a confession video towards the beginning/middle of the night talking about debt and james, sally, etc.)

Jaclyn:  She has always found joy at coming to the casino and visits quite often. She had befriended William and James and they had a good time together gambling. Jaclyn, at first it was just  friends to enjoy gambling together. Now, she is slowly starting to catch feelings for William. She is trying to keep her feelings at bay, but it is hard. Jaclyn wants to hang out with William and his friends  when they visit the casino but she doesn’t want any trouble with Sally and William, even though nothing is happening between the two, and Sally and Barbara doesn’t really know her. (film confession at anytime)

Police Officer: Active on the crime scene and interviewing people. Encourage them to use the confession room and review them to determine the murderer. Finds a wallet underneath a chair in the lobby.

Reporter (2): It’s not every day where there is a murder at Casino Seneca. As soon as the 911 call came in, they were right on the scene. The reporter stops at nothing to get the best shot/scoop that happens in the town. Trying to compete to be the top reporter

Black jack/Texas holdem/roulette dealer: Dealer is friendly with all except when   William and James visit, he tends to make it known they are not welcome at the table with him. They are just obnoxious to deal with.

 Extras:

Casino goers- just an average night out at the casino until they heard screaming, and saw a dead body in the lobby.

Bartenders

Cocktail Servers

Bookies: tries to get people to gamble at higher stakes. Target the biggest gamblers: William, Jaclyn, and James but can entice the other

Evidence:

Wallet left at the crime scene

Key chain bracelet or anything that can be used for strangulation is left in a different room.
